E-Learning Mood Matters Young People Programme

Online Mood Matters for Young People Programme

This free interactive programme consists of five online videos/sessions combining video presentations, Kahoot quizzes and an activity workbook which will help participants develop important skills and build resilience to maintain good levels of mental health, while also helping them identify if they need support.

This evidence-based programme introduces the ‘Five Areas Approach’ which is based on cognitive behavioural concepts. Participants use practical examples to help learn that challenging and changing unhelpful thinking and behaviours can make a positive difference to their lives.

Mood Matters online also features the Public Health Agency (PHA) ‘ Five ways to Wellbeing’ which focuses on the five most evidenced-based ways of looking after our mental health i.e. connect, be active, take notice, keep learning and give.

Target Group:

The programme is aimed at Year 10 – 14 students but AWARE are happy for the programme to be circulated to Year 8-9 students if your school deems the material appropriate for this age range.

Video Links:

A series of five separate video links will be sent to schools and these links will be active for 30 days. Each video includes staff talking, videos relating to the subject and kahoot quizzes which students can complete to gauge their knowledge of the subject. Students can revisit the videos and watch these more than once within the 30 day time period. Teachers will circulate the 5 video links to each student undertaking the programme

Workbook:

A PDF workbook has been produced to accompany the 5 videos. Schools can choose to print this off or circulate to students and ask that they either print this or refer to this as a reading aid. A shorter word document for all written tasks within the larger workbook is available for students to either print off or use to complete the written task using a laptop/PC. Some schools have chosen to turn this word document into a Google document for ease of use.

Programme Overview:

Session Title
1 Introduction to Mental Health
2 Understanding Stress and Anxiety
3 Understanding Depression
4 Challenging Unhelpful Thoughts
5 The Five ways to Well Being

*Suggested Learning Time: 60mins per session (online work / workbook activities)

Monitoring:

A short electronic link will be sent to all participating schools and we would ask that as a condition of receiving this programme free of charge that teachers send this link to all students after they complete the programme to capture monitoring and evaluation data. This survey should take no more than 2minutes to complete and this will ensure that our funders can see which schools and how many students from each school participated in the programme. All responses to the survey are confidential and no names/emails are attributes to responses.

Options for the programme:

Some suggested options for student to undertake the programme include:

Ø  Students spend 1hr per day over five days (Mon-Fri).

Ø  Students undertake the programme at set times such as class times over a 30 day period.
