Community Networks Launch “Take 5 Community” to Boost Community Wellbeing in Northern Locality
Community Networks across the Northern Locality are launching Take 5 Community, a new initiative to support and recognise the essential role played by the community and voluntary sector in promoting physical, mental and social wellbeing. The Public Health Agency is supporting this work and the Northern Area PHA Head of Service Maurice Meehan said “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Community Networks across the Northern Locality on this new initiative to promote health and wellbeing across our communities and support the many community groups who are working tirelessly to enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of their local communities.”
Each year, these Networks connect with hundreds of people and organisations dedicated to enhancing overall health and wellness. The new Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing Certification will now formally acknowledge groups actively delivering on the Take 5 principles for wellbeing.
The Take 5 Community initiative will involve awareness-raising activities, taster sessions, and practical ideas for each of the Take 5 steps to wellbeing. Through this certification community groups will gain access to resources that foster good practices, promote wellbeing activities, and provide an evidence-based checklist to support their journey towards certification.
The Take 5 steps – Connect, Be Active, Keep Learning, Give, and Take Notice – are known to enhance individual and collective wellbeing. The program emphasises the powerful impact of the community and voluntary sector in building healthier communities, encouraging people to take control of their health, improve their quality of life and achieve their full potential.
Groups that earn the Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing Certification will be recognized and celebrated. This recognition aims to build confidence within communities, inspire motivation, and encourage other organisations to adopt similar practices.
Take 5 Community will help to uplift and highlight the dedication of local groups working to create positive change, ensuring that their invaluable efforts receive the acknowledgment and support they deserve.
This programme is supported by the Public Health Agency.
