April 30, 2026Launch of new Death Positive Library resource at Coleraine Library –Tues 5th May @10:30 – 11.30am during ‘Dying Matters’ Awareness Week – Let’s Talk About Death
To mark ‘Dying Matters’ Awareness Week 2026, Compassionate Communities NI, in collaboration with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust (NHSCT), and working with Libraries NI, is proud to announce the official launch of the Death Positive Library at Coleraine Library.
The launch introduces a specially curated collection of resources designed to break the silence surrounding end-of-life care, loss, and bereavement. The initiative aims to transform the local library into a “compassionate hub” where residents can find the language and support they need to discuss death openly and without stigma.
Join the Mayor, Oliver McMullan, to hear more about ‘Dying Matters’ Week and the books available in the Death Positive Series in collaboration with Libraries NI and Death Positive Libraries.
Two new resources will also be launched:
‘What to Expect” Booklet and Supporting Children & Young People Through Grief and Bereavement
‘When Someone Dies’ Learning Disability Booklet & Guidance
The event will be from 10:30 – 11.30am and everyone is welcome to come along, with no booking necessary.
Death Positive Libraries NI, are dedicated to fostering a culture of openness and understanding around matters relating to dying, death and bereavement. The initiative aims to create safe spaces within libraries across Northern Ireland where people can explore, learn, and discuss topics related to advanced illness, caregiving, dying, death and bereavement.
The initiative is a community-centred programme that seeks to normalise conversations about death. By providing resources, hosting events, and facilitating discussions, it aims to empower individuals to approach the topic of death with curiosity, respect, and compassion.
