“Swallow Aware”

The Public Health Agency’s Dysphagia NI has produced a “Swallow Aware” digital resource  in collaboration with Mid and East Antrim Agewell Partnership (MEAAP). This resource aims to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of dysphagia (eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties) within community settings and to encourage people to seek help from a healthcare professional as required.

Eating, Drinking and Swallowing difficulties can happen to anyone at any age and is more common than we may think.  It may occur in infants, children, young people and adults and is usually as a result of other health conditions. For some people their difficulty can be minor but for others it can become a serious risk to their health.

Signs of dysphagia include coughing during or after meals or drinks, choking, recurrent or regular chest infections without symptoms of a cold.

The resource can be downloaded HERE and displayed digitally or printed in poster format for display in settings throughout the community. We would appreciate if you could share this information and resource throughout your networks as appropriate.
